OnboardingGenie
Training management for small firms

Employee training inside the same packet as your onboarding.

Generate slides from your existing materials. Use randomized quizzes that are different every time someone takes them. Track completions next to your e-signatures, intake forms, and compliance items. No separate LMS to log into.

OnboardingGenie's training step isn't a separate LMS bolted on next to your e-sign tool. It's the same packet a new hire or new client already sees — one link, one checklist, training right next to the I-9 and the engagement letter. The Genie builds the slides; the question bank delivers a different quiz every time someone takes it; the Compliance Dashboard tracks every completion and renewal.

What kinds of training material can you use?

You pick the material type when you build the step: slides, document, external link, or video. The Genie can help create slide content from existing materials; the other types use content you already have. Engagement is tracked for all four — the system knows whether the recipient actually read, watched, or worked through the material, not just whether they clicked through.

Slides

Slide decks created via the Genie (from a PDF, content upload, or topic prompt) or authored from scratch in markdown. Per-slide engagement is tracked: which slides were viewed.

Document

A single PDF document. Per-page engagement is tracked, so you know whether the recipient read past the first page or skipped ahead to the attestation.

External link

A URL pointing to outside training content (a vendor's compliance video, an industry resource, a YouTube training). Click-through and engagement are logged.

Video

Embedded video content. Watch progress is measured — the system records how much of the video was actually watched, not just whether the play button was pressed.

For attestation steps where the legal value is "they confirmed they read it," any of the four works. For quiz steps where comprehension is being tested, the engagement metric becomes additional evidence that the recipient genuinely interacted with the material before answering questions. The completion record carries both the attestation timestamp and the engagement evidence — so the audit answer to "did they really watch the harassment-prevention video?" is yes, with a percentage.

How do you build slide content?

The slides material type has four creation paths in the Step modal. Pick whichever is fastest for the moment:

PathWhat it doesBest for
Upload PDFDrop a PDF up to 30 pages; recipients page through it.A handbook, a policy doc, an existing training deck saved as PDF.
Ask the GenieDescribe the topic; the Genie generates slides."Build me a 6-slide intro to our security policy."
Let the GenieUpload your existing content; the Genie generates slides from it.A long Word doc you want as digestible slides.
Build from scratchAuthor markdown slides directly with the in-app editor. When you have specific copy you want exactly as written.

Generated slides land in the Slide Deck Editor, where you can drag to reorder, edit any slide's markdown, add your own slides, or delete what doesn't fit. Slide decks render with your org branding — logo header, accent-colored headings, brand line in the footer.

What does the recipient have to do to complete training?

You choose the verification type when you build the step: attestation, quiz, or both. Attestation is a single checkbox confirming the recipient read the material. Quiz is a graded assessment from a question bank. When both are enabled, attestation comes first, then the quiz.

Attestation only

A single confirmation checkbox after the recipient finishes the slides or document. Fastest, lowest-friction. Good for handbook acknowledgment, code-of-conduct sign-off, policy attestation where the legal value is the timestamp + the signature, not a comprehension test.

Quiz

A graded assessment with configurable pass threshold (default 80%) and maximum attempts (default 3). Pass to complete the step. Fail your last attempt and the recipient is told to contact their administrator. Good for security awareness, harassment prevention, role-specific procedure training where comprehension actually matters.

Both

Attestation first, then quiz. The recipient can't take the quiz until they've attested they read the material. The quiz then verifies they actually did.

How does the question randomization work, and why does it matter?

The Genie generates a question bank — typically 10 to 25 questions — and each quiz attempt randomly draws a configurable subset (you set how many questions per attempt). Two recipients taking the same training never see the same exact quiz. Two attempts by the same recipient never see the same exact quiz. That's a structural commitment to actual comprehension, not click-through training theater.

Most "compliance training" software treats the quiz as a formality. Same five questions every time, same correct answers in the same order, freely shareable in a Slack channel five minutes after the first person finishes. The training certificate proves someone clicked through, not that they understood the material.

Randomized question selection from a larger bank changes the math. A 15-question bank delivering 5 questions per attempt has 3,003 unique combinations before you account for answer-choice ordering. A recipient who memorizes one attempt's questions doesn't pass the next attempt without learning the material. Over a 50-employee anti-harassment training program, the difference between "everyone passed because they shared answers" and "everyone passed because they read the slides" is the difference between liability and protection.

Three things make training meaningful instead of theatrical:

  • Different questions every attempt. A question bank with random selection means no two attempts are identical and no shared answer key works.
  • A pass threshold that requires comprehension. Setting the bar at 80% (or higher) means a recipient can't guess their way through.
  • Re-attempt limits. Capping attempts at three forces a recipient to actually study before retrying instead of brute-forcing the answers.

How do training completions get tracked over time?

Every training completion records the date, the recipient, the verification type, the quiz score (if applicable), and the slides or document version. Those records flow into the Compliance Dashboard, where you can see who's current, who's due soon, and who's overdue across your whole team — and resend training packets to refresh anyone whose certification is about to lapse.

For annual training (anti-harassment, HIPAA refreshers, security awareness, AI-use policy), the Compliance Dashboard tracks the recurrence schedule. When training is due to expire, the dashboard surfaces the recipient — and you can use audience send to push a fresh packet to a tagged group all at once. Quarterly cadences, custom intervals, and one-time training all work the same way; the dashboard just changes which renewal window applies.

How does this compare to a dedicated LMS?

OnboardingGenie's training step covers the most common needs of a small-firm training program — slide-based content delivery, attestation, randomized comprehension quizzes, and renewal tracking — at a flat $79/month price. A dedicated LMS goes deeper on certain capabilities (course catalogs, learning paths, SCORM-compliant content, instructor-led training) at per-user pricing. For a 1–50 person firm, the right question is which set of capabilities you actually use.

If your training program needs course catalogs, learning paths, certifications, or SCORM-compliant content delivery, OnboardingGenie isn't built for that — a dedicated LMS is the right tool. If your training program is mostly compliance refreshers, role-based onboarding, and policy attestations, OnboardingGenie's training step covers it without the separate login or per-user math.

Are there pre-built training presets I can use?

Yes. The Training Library ships with 8 starter training presets — six slide-based decks with randomized-question quizzes, one video orientation, and one external-link example you can configure to point at your own resource.

  • Workplace Harassment & Discrimination Prevention (slides + quiz)
  • Information Security & Password Safety (slides + quiz)
  • AI Tools in the Workplace (slides + quiz)
  • Emergency Procedures & Workplace Safety (slides + quiz)
  • HIPAA Privacy Awareness (slides + quiz)
  • Customer Data & Confidentiality (slides + quiz)

Frequently asked questions about training in OnboardingGenie

How do I create a training step?

You open the Step modal in the Packet Builder and pick a material type — slides, document, external link, or video — then provide the content. For slides specifically, you can upload a PDF up to 30 pages, ask the Genie to generate slides from a topic, let the Genie generate slides from content you upload, or build markdown slides from scratch. The training step lands in your Step Library and can be added to any packet.

Can I use my own slide content instead of letting the Genie generate it?

Yes. The "Build from scratch" path opens the Slide Deck Editor with empty slides, where you author markdown directly. You can also generate slides via the Genie and then edit any of them — the editor is the same in both flows. Slide content lives as markdown, so you can format with headings, bullet points, links, embedded video, and more.

Does the system know if someone actually watched the video or just clicked through?

Yes. For video material, the system measures watch progress — how much of the video was actually watched, not just whether the play button was pressed. The same is true for slide decks (per-slide engagement) and documents (per-page engagement). Watch and view progress is recorded alongside the attestation timestamp and any quiz score.

How does the quiz randomization work?

The Genie generates a question bank from your training material — typically 10 to 25 questions. Each quiz attempt draws a random subset based on the questions-per-attempt setting (you choose). Two attempts never get the same exact quiz, even by the same recipient.

Can I require a passing score?

Yes. The pass threshold defaults to 80% and is configurable per training step. The maximum number of attempts defaults to 3, also configurable. A recipient who fails their last attempt is told to contact their administrator — at which point you can reset their attempt count if appropriate.

How is this different from a dedicated LMS?

A dedicated LMS is a separate destination with its own login, course catalog, and certificate workflow. OnboardingGenie's training steps live inside the same packet as e-signatures, intake forms, and document uploads — one link, one checklist, one record of completion. For most small-firm scenarios (compliance refreshers, role-based onboarding, policy attestations), that's the right level of tool. If you need course catalogs, learning paths, or SCORM-compliant content, OnboardingGenie isn't a replacement.

How do I track who's completed which training and when?

The Compliance Dashboard shows current, due-soon, and overdue status for every recipient against every recurring training. You can filter by category, export to CSV, generate compliance PDFs (per-recipient, per-category, or full-fleet), and audience-send a refresh packet to anyone whose training is about to lapse.

Training delivered. Completion verified. All in one link.
